The Prallsville Mills were a major industrial center in the town of Stockton, NJ for close to 200 years. On these grounds were a grist mill, linseed oil mill, and saw mill. This site enjoyed the benefit of virtually every type of transportation system that was available in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Until 1834 products produced at the mills at this site were shipped to customers via wagon and river boat. After 1834 canal boats were also used, and after 1850 the railroad was added as a shipping option. Sometime in the 1950’s the mills at the site ceased operation and became a lumber yard and feed store until the State of New Jersey acquired the property in 1973. Today this site is part of the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.
